Role Reversal Challenge

Trade places for a night and see what it’s like to walk (or sprint) in your partner’s shoes.

Dinner, dishes, bedtime routines and all.

It’s playful, eye-opening, and just might lead to your best conversation yet.

The Date Idea:
Pick an evening where you both agree to fully switch roles.

That means whoever usually cooks, cleans, or wrangles the kids, hands it all off to the other person for the night.

If your partner usually handles dinner and bedtime, now it’s your turn… and vice versa. But make it fun!

Add a lighthearted twist by writing out a “How-To” list for your usual tasks and see how your partner interprets it. Think: “The kids won’t eat the green stuff,” or “Don’t forget the bedtime song...or else.”

Meanwhile, the partner “off duty” gets to relax.

Bubble bath, book, or feet up on the couch with their favorite show. The key is full commitment from both sides. No stepping in or correcting!

After everything is done, sit down together and share what you learned. Was anything harder than expected? What parts of your partner’s routine surprised you?

What You’ll Need:

  • A playful attitude and open mind

  • A written or mental checklist of each person’s usual evening tasks

  • A comfy space for the “off-duty” partner to relax

  • Optional: journal prompts or discussion questions to reflect afterward (e.g. “What was challenging? What would feel more supportive moving forward?”)

Extra Twist:
Add a prize at the end for whoever completes the challenge most gracefully (or the silliest).
